THE OPPORTUNITY
The Portfolio Development team sits at the heart of everything this organization does — ensuring the progress of its affiliate companies and evaluating novel therapeutic ideas for future investment. The team works directly alongside an Investment Committee composed of veteran drug developers and renowned academic scientists.
As Associate or Senior Associate, Portfolio Development, you will be a key member of this team from day one — helping shape the culture, the scientific direction, and the investment strategy of the company. You will divide your time between two equally important mandates: (1) deeply reviewing the scientific progress and direction of affiliate programs, and (2) researching, evaluating, and advocating for new investment opportunities and therapeutic areas.
This is a full-time, in-person role.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Scientific Evaluation & Portfolio Oversight
- Deeply evaluate all aspects of therapeutic programs — from genetic rationale and preclinical evidence through clinical development plans and trial design
- Ensure the highest level of scientific execution by reviewing the progress of affiliate companies at critical development milestones
- Coordinate with a talented team of internal subject-matter experts — including clinical, commercial, and disease specialists — to dive as deeply as needed on each program
Investment Advocacy & Strategy
- Build rigorous scientific and business cases for potential investments aligned with the company’s mission of targeting the genetic source of disease
- Establish a focused investment strategy and drive through from identification to recommendation
- Research, evaluate, and advocate for both specific investment opportunities and broader therapeutic areas for the company to pursue
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
- Interface with leading academics, patient advocacy groups, biotechs, and entrepreneurs across the precision medicine landscape
- Lead internal discussions with senior management and the Investment Committee
- Represent the organization externally with the scientific credibility and commercial judgment that the role demands
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education
- Advanced technical degree required — MD or PhD
Experience — one of the following strongly preferred:
- Post-doctoral researcher with meaningful experience in or strong interest in the business of biotech
- Top-tier management consulting experience in life sciences (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, or equivalent)
- Venture capital with a life sciences or biotech focus
- Business development role at a biotech or life science startup
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional scientific aptitude — you can evaluate a program from target biology through clinical design and hold your own in a room of world-class scientists
- Broad knowledge of precision medicine, genetics-based therapeutics, and the biotech and pharmaceutical landscape
- Experience and confidence working across a wide range of therapeutic areas
- Outstanding communication skills — you write clearly, present compellingly, and synthesize complexity with precision
- A self-starter with high energy, genuine intellectual curiosity, and a strong work ethic
- Collaborative and team-oriented — you make the people around you better
THE RIGHT PERSON
The organization describes its best team members in four ways — and they mean it:
Patient Champion — Puts patients first in every decision. Upholds strict ethical standards without compromise. The patient is always in the room.
Entrepreneurial Operator — Drives toward practical solutions with urgency. Takes ownership of outcomes and doesn’t wait to be asked.
Truth Seeker — Detailed, rational, and humble. Finds the real answer, not the comfortable one. Asks the hard questions about the science.
Excellence Inspirer — Holds themselves and those around them to the highest standard. Makes every team they join better by being in it.
LOCATION
In-person — not a remote position.
