OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Business Officer (CBO) will provide strategic, financial, and business development leadership to the company with his/her primary objective being driving and maximizing the value creation strategy for the company. The CBO role is anticipated to have overall responsibility for business development and external partnerships as well as providing key contributions to corporate strategy. Additionally, along with the CEO and the Management Team, the CBO will be expected to actively cultivate and facilitate an entrepreneurial and productive company culture where great people can do great things. The ability to create a long-term vision for the company and to design and implement the resulting corporate and business strategy to optimize value and impact will be critical to the CBO’s success.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry
- Minimum of 7 years of business development and licensing experience with a proven track record of creating and managing impactful deals, preferably for both sell and buy side
- Minimum of 5 years of direct managerial responsibility leading business development or similar teams
- Minimum of 5 years of corporate strategy experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech sector
- Extensive experience and background in the discovery and development of first-in-class therapeutics and exceptional understanding of the therapeutic drug discovery process from research through commercialization
- Ability to travel 30% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Personal characteristics including high integrity, entrepreneurial mindset, creativity, high energy, a “can do” attitude, decisiveness, and a sense of urgency
- Master’s degree, MBA, or PhD/MD
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficient computer skills
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate a team and work collaboratively with the CEO, Board, and Leadership Team, etc.
- Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills
- Track record of successful corporate partnerships, transactions, and business development
- Proven experience creating and managing product development partnerships
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills
- Ability to recruit, motivate and retain highly talented individuals with a clear understanding of the value of company culture
- Strong scientific/technical understanding enabling content rich integration and relationship with R&D efforts
- Experienced and competent as company spokesman with investors, partners and media
- Experienced in project leadership and project management in the pharmaceutical setting
- Excellent understanding of the commercial markets for Therapeutics and Diagnostics
- Established network throughout pharmaceutical industry, biotech companies, investors, and academia
